Compare the Suizan ryoba and Gyokucho 651 double-edge formats with the single-edge katabas. The Temple D-240-R is a fine rip-cut dozuki, while D-180 is an ultra-fine crosscut format. Crown’s gents and tenon saws and the Lynx rip-filed dovetail saw offer other handle and blade arrangements; do not compare them solely by overall length.
Clearance and flush work
A backed blade needs room for its back; it does not offer unlimited cutting depth. The selected Suizan SFL-001 is a no-set flush-cut format. Jorgensen’s reversible dovetail/jamb arrangement and the folding Suizan solve different access or storage needs. Confirm the exact intended operation rather than treating every small saw as a flush-cut saw.
Frame saws need a blade match
The retained Knew Concepts coping and Mk.IV fret saws and Olson coping frame use distinct frame, clamp and tensioning arrangements. Compare supported blade fitting, supplied blades and throat. A frame’s nominal size does not by itself establish every replacement blade, working depth or tooth setting method.
Questions before you choose
Does a longer blade mean a deeper frame throat?
No. Blade length and throat describe different dimensions. A frame saw’s reach must be checked separately from its blade fitting.
Can a saw-tooth setter maintain every saw here?
No. Confirm that the exact saw’s teeth are intended to be reset. Hardened or otherwise restricted teeth must not be treated as universally serviceable with a setter.
Is a fine joinery saw automatically a flush-cut saw?
No. Tooth set, blade support and the intended cutting arrangement matter. Compare the dedicated SFL-001 format for flush-cut work.
