What this tool adds

What this tool adds to your bench

Choose this Ryoba when one saw needs to handle both directions of the wood grain. One edge has rip teeth for cutting along the grain; the other has crosscut teeth for cutting across it. Match the tooth pattern to the grain direction before starting the joint.

The selected 240 mm blade has nominal 9 TPI rip and 15 TPI crosscut teeth. Its stated blade thickness is 0.5 mm and kerf 0.8 mm. Thickness describes the blade plate; kerf is the width of material removed by the teeth. Compare the kerf when allowing for a joint layout rather than assuming it equals the plate thickness.

This is an assembled saw with a wooden, vinyl-rattan-wrapped handle and replaceable blade. A zippered protective bag is listed. Choose the matching SR-001 replacement rather than assuming any 240 mm blade fits the handle attachment.

Compare this fixed-handle format with the folding F-001 when packed length matters, the single-edge Kataba for dedicated crosscuts, or the finer-pitch Gyokucho 651 for its hardwood-oriented edge design. Exact overall length is not settled because the available graphic differs from the current specifications; confirm storage fit if that measurement decides the purchase.

Choose for your actual work

  • Choose rip or crosscut edge according to grain direction.
  • Compare kerf separately from blade thickness when marking a joint.

Fit checks & limits

  • Exact overall length differs between current 590 mm specification and 610 mm graphic.
  • No universal replacement-blade or miter-guide compatibility is established.

Use & care

Use the pull stroke and a model-matched replacement blade.

Questions before you choose

Which edge should I use for a tenon cheek?

When the intended cut follows the grain, compare the rip edge. A shoulder cut across the grain instead calls for the crosscut edge.

Why is kerf larger than blade thickness?

Blade thickness is the plate measurement. Kerf describes the slot removed by the cutting teeth, so use the stated 0.8 mm kerf when comparing material removal.

Will the folding saw’s 240 mm replacement fit this one?

That cross-compatibility is not established. Choose the replacement specified for the SR-001 attachment rather than ordering by length alone.
