What this tool adds
What this tool adds to your bench
Choose this traditional holdfast when you want to secure and reposition work with a few mallet taps. The shaft wedges in a bench dog hole as the head is struck, holding the work down. A tap to the back releases it. It is a different operating method from turning the screw on a dog-hole clamp.
The selected model 876800 is the single holdfast. It is intended for 3/4 inch, approximately19 mm, dog holes. The source recommends a bench2–4 inches thick and boards up to 6 inches thick. Check those requirements and the space below your benchtop before choosing it for an existing bench.
The hot-forged carbon-steel body has a deliberately rough, uncoated shaft. The source advises against applying rust protection to that shaft because its surface helps it grip the hole. It also recommends leather or cork-rubber on the contact pad to reduce the chance of marking the work; those pads are not established as included.
A pair may suit some workholding setups, but this offer supplies one holdfast. Compare POWERTEC’s screw-operated model if you prefer a knob and threaded pressure pad, or the BORA fence if the job needs a positioning stop rather than downward clamping. Do not assume a 3/4 inch post fits a 20 mm hole system correctly.
Choose for your actual work
- Check hole diameter, bench thickness and underside clearance.
- Choose mallet-set or screw-operated pressure to suit your workflow.
Fit checks & limits
- A recommendation to use pairs does not make this a two-pack.
- No 20 mm-hole compatibility or universal bench fit is established.
Use & care
Do not apply rust protection to the shaft, as advised by the source.
The source recommends leather or cork-rubber on the contact pad to help protect the work.
Questions before you choose
Will this work on a thin benchtop?
The source recommends benches2–4 inches thick. Check your actual bench construction instead of assuming any board drilled with a dog hole will hold it correctly.
Do I receive two because the description recommends using pairs?
No. The selected model is 876800, which the original publisher identifies as the single. Its 876800_X2 selection is the separate two-pack.
Should I oil the shaft to protect it?
The source specifically advises against rust protection on the gripping shaft. Its rough, uncoated surface is part of the described holding method.
