What this tool adds
What this tool adds to your bench
This set provides five bevel-edge bench chisels for joinery and finishing across a range of widths. The selected sizes are 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4 and 1 inch. Compared with buying a specialist corner or skew profile, it gives a broader selection of straight cutting widths for the bench.
The sides taper toward the cutting edges, a shape worth comparing when the chisel must approach a joint wall. Width still matters: a one-inch edge does not replace a narrow tool in a confined opening. The maker also uses nominal metric labels of 6, 10, 13, 19 and 25 mm for these five components, so check actual fit where close clearance is critical.
Narex specifies cryogenically treated Cr-V blades at 62 HRc for model 853600. The handles are ash, with stainless steel ferrules and leather pads. These construction details distinguish the set from the brand’s 59 HRc mortise tools, but hardness alone does not determine which blade shape suits your joint.
The selected offer is the five-tool set with a wooden presentation case, also visible in its photographs. Choose it when you want several straight bench widths together; compare the mortise set for robust deep-socket work or the handed skew pair for corner access. The very low temperature described in the manufacturing process is not an instruction to cool the tools during use.
Choose for your actual work
- Compare the sizes you actually use with the supplied five before buying a complete set.
- Choose cutting profile and clearance first; use hardness and handle construction as additional comparisons.
Fit checks & limits
- Nominal inch/metric labels do not prove exact measured edge widths.
- Manufacturing temperatures are not operating or storage instructions.
- Maker package weight is not presented as the weight of each tool.
Questions before you choose
Is this a mortise-chisel set?
It is a bevel-edge bench set with five straight widths. Compare the dedicated mortise set if the priority is robust blades for deep-socket waste removal.
Does cryogenic treatment require a special cooling routine?
No such routine is specified here. The low temperature describes a manufacturing treatment, not an instruction for workshop use.
Does greater hardness settle which set I should buy?
No. Compare the blade shape, working clearance and widths against your joints first. Hardness is one material specification, not a universal suitability ranking.
