What this tool adds

What this tool adds to your bench

Use this corner profile when a joint needs a square internal corner after its main waste has been removed. The two cutting faces meet at 90 degrees, giving a different contact from a single flat bench chisel. The selected 10 × 10 mm size describes that corner format, not a promise that the whole tool fits inside every opening of that size.

This is one complete, free-hand corner chisel with a wooden handle and brass ferrule. It does not have the spring-loaded guide body of the Milescraft hinge-mortise tool. Compare how you will register the tool against the joint, and whether the handle and blade can approach the corner without obstruction.

Narex identifies the blade as forged chrome-manganese steel at 59 HRc, with a polished right-angle profile. The cutting geometry is the important difference from the left/right skew pair: this tool works a square internal corner, while the skew pair offers handed angled edges for access beside a shoulder or dovetail.

Choose it for the corner-cleaning step rather than as a replacement for every straight chisel. For repeated hinge recesses left with rounded routed corners, compare the guided Milescraft design. The maker’s language versions disagree about the wood species of the handle, so the handle is described simply as wood; choose a different confirmed reference if a particular species is essential.

Choose for your actual work

  • Check approach and clearance at the actual joint, including room for the handle.
  • Compare free-hand corner work with a guided hinge-mortise tool if repeating routed hinge recesses.

Fit checks & limits

  • Handle species differs between maker language versions and listing; neither species is adopted as settled.
  • No universal opening clearance is implied by the nominal 10 × 10 mm profile.
  • Exact overall dimensions and net tool weight are withheld because the available scopes are not reconciled.

Questions before you choose

How does it differ from the spring-loaded hinge tool?

This is a long handled tool used free-hand at the joint. The Milescraft has a guide body and spring-loaded cutter intended for squaring routed hinge mortises.

Does 10 × 10 mm guarantee it will enter my mortise?

No. It identifies the cutting profile; the actual opening, blade approach and room around the handle must also be checked.

Would the skew pair do the same job?

The skew pair provides left and right angled edges. This tool instead has two faces meeting at a right angle for a square internal corner.
