What this tool adds
What this tool adds to your bench
This is a set for larger carving work, not a collection of small detail chisels. Its Ro Bern contents are D/60, 2/60, 5/60 and 7/50. The maker’s component table identifies 60 mm cutting widths for the first three and 50 mm for the 7/50, so compare their scale with the features you intend to carve.
The 2, 5 and 7 gouge profiles have different curvatures; they are not simply three copies at another width. Their fishtail form widens toward the cutting edge, a feature to compare when working near a corner with limited side clearance. A broad cutting edge still needs enough room at the cut.
The D/60 is the separate Dräyer form. Pfeil describes its slightly skewed, double-bevel edge for rough cutting, with right- or left-direction use. That gives the kit a different roughing option alongside the curved profiles. Choose the combination for the shapes and scale of your carving rather than for the four-piece count alone.
The selected offer includes four complete tools and the canvas roll. The listing specifies alloy chrome-vanadium blades and hardwood handles. Ro Bern is the tool kit; the similarly named Rl Bern is the empty roll in the maker catalogue. For fine joinery corners rather than broad sculpture, compare the smaller skew-chisel pair instead.
Choose for your actual work
- Compare the 50–60 mm edges with your carving scale; do not select it as a miniature detail set.
- Check which curvatures you need rather than treating the four tools as interchangeable.
Fit checks & limits
- Archived maker dimensions identify component formats; current net set weight is not independently measured.
- No general mallet permission, honing angle or interchangeable replacement-blade fit is established.
Questions before you choose
What makes this different from a small four-piece carving set?
The cutting edges here are broad: 60 mm for D/60, 2/60 and 5/60, and 50 mm for 7/50. Compare those widths with the scale of the carving before ordering.
Are all four tools the same gouge shape?
No. There are three different gouge curvatures and a separate D/60 Dräyer tool with a slightly skewed, double-bevel cutting form.
Is Ro Bern the empty storage roll?
Ro Bern is the four-tool kit with its roll. The archived maker catalogue uses Rl Bern for the empty roll, so the similar names should not be treated as the same offer.
