What this tool adds
What this tool adds to your bench
Choose this V-tool when the cut needs an angular channel rather than the rounded hollow left by a gouge. Its two cutting sides meet in a 60-degree profile. That makes it a different function from the MC305 No. 5 gouge, even when both are used with a mallet on the same carving.
The selected nominal width is 3/8 inch, also labelled 9 mm by Flexcut. The width and 60-degree profile describe different parts of the cutting shape; neither states a maximum working depth. Compare the actual channel you want to form and the room for the tool to approach it.
The selected listing specifies 1095 high-carbon steel and an ash handle, with use by hand or mallet for larger or denser carving work. It is one complete fixed-handle tool. The other profiles shown on the reference chart are separate models rather than extra cutters in this offer.
Select it for a repeated V-shaped cut when a dedicated handle and mallet-capable construction suit the job. Compare the SK107 for a hand-carving assortment with different angled profiles, or the MC305 when a curved sweep is needed instead. Similar widths do not make those cutting shapes interchangeable.
Choose for your actual work
- Choose V-shaped or rounded contact from the shape of the intended cut.
- Compare angle and width separately; neither alone establishes cutting depth.
Fit checks & limits
- No maximum channel depth or permitted striking force is established.
- No other chart profiles are included.
Use & care
Use the matching angled strop under Flexcut’s V-tool guidance.
Avoid humid storage of the steel.
Questions before you choose
Would the No. 5 gouge leave the same channel?
No. Its curved sweep and this tool’s V-shaped profile contact the wood differently. Choose the shape required by the carving.
Does 60 degrees tell me how deep I can cut?
It describes the V profile. Working depth also depends on the workpiece and approach, and a maximum is not specified here.
Why compare it with an interchangeable assortment?
An assortment provides different hand-carving profiles with a shared handle. This is a dedicated fixed-handle tool explicitly described for mallet as well as hand use.
