What this tool adds
What this tool adds to your bench
The KN26 has a compact curved blade for working inside hollows. Choose it when a small gouge-like cutting shape suits the part of the carving you need to remove. Its ash handle and short exposed blade give it a different form from the longer Sloyd hook knife with a more deeply curved hook.
Flexcut specifies a 7/8-inch blade bevel length. That measures the cutting bevel, not the diameter of a bowl it can hollow or the maximum depth it can reach. Compare the actual curve and available approach to your workpiece instead of choosing a tool from that number alone.
The selected blade is 1095 high-carbon steel with an ash hardwood handle. This is one fixed-blade carving tool, not a folding knife or a multi-profile kit. The manufacturer identifies it as the right-handed version, but the intended cutting direction also matters when selecting the handed model.
For a right-handed carver, Flexcut recommends the right-handed tool for cuts toward the user and the left-handed tool for cuts away. Check that arrangement against your technique. Compare the KN52 for its deeper hook and through-handle tang, or the KN23 scorp when the bent gouge-like approach is needed in a narrow cavity.
Choose for your actual work
- Match handedness to cutting direction as well as your dominant hand.
- Treat bevel length as an edge measurement, not a hollowing-capacity claim.
Fit checks & limits
- No maximum hollow diameter, cutting depth or settled overall tool length is established.
- The left-handed counterpart is a separate tool, not included.
Use & care
Flexcut recommends periodic stropping; follow its guidance for the curved edge.
Avoid humid storage; the dark blade finish is not rust-proof.
Questions before you choose
Is the right-handed version always the right choice for a right-handed carver?
Not regardless of technique. Flexcut recommends this version for right-handed cuts toward the user and the left-handed version for cuts away.
Does 7/8 inch tell me the bowl size I can carve?
No. It is the blade bevel length. Hollow size and tool access also depend on the blade curve and the workpiece.
When should I compare the longer Sloyd hook knife?
When the deeper hook, longer handle arrangement or through-handle tang of the KN52 better suits your hollowing approach.
