What this tool adds
What this tool adds to your bench
A scorp turns the gouge-like cutting profile at an angle to the handle. Flexcut describes it for spaces where the full length of a conventional gouge will not fit. Choose it when that bent approach is the useful difference at the cavity, rather than simply buying another straight gouge of similar width.
The selected KN23 is the right-handed tool in nominal 5/16-inch width, also labelled 8 mm by the maker. The two labels are rounded size conventions; they are not a guarantee of a precisely measured opening fit. A narrow edge does not by itself establish the depth or shape of a cavity the handle can reach.
The selected listing specifies a thin 1095 high-carbon steel blade and a curved ash handle. This offer is one complete scorp. The opposite-handed KNL23 and a multi-tool scorp set are separate offers, not additional tools supplied here.
For a right-handed user, Flexcut recommends the right-handed scorp for cutting toward the user and the left-handed version for cutting away. Compare that direction with your technique before choosing. If the cavity is open enough for a deep hook knife, compare the KN52; if several portable profiles are needed, compare the Carvin’ Jack 2.0.
Choose for your actual work
- Check handle approach inside the cavity, not cutting width alone.
- Match handedness to cutting direction as well as dominant hand.
Fit checks & limits
- No maximum cavity depth or universal clearance is established.
- This selected offer is the right-handed KN23; the left-handed KNL23 is a separate model.
Use & care
Match the strop profile to the inside curve when following Flexcut’s guidance.
Keep the steel out of damp storage.
Questions before you choose
Why choose a scorp instead of a straight gouge?
The cutting form is turned relative to the handle. That can provide a different approach where a long straight gouge cannot fit; actual clearance still needs checking.
Is right-handed determined only by my writing hand?
No. Flexcut also distinguishes direction: right-handed users select this version for cuts toward themselves and the opposite version for cuts away.
Does the 8 mm label guarantee entry into an 8 mm slot?
It is the maker’s nominal counterpart to 5/16 inch. The edge, handle approach and actual opening must all be checked for a close fit.
