Choose how you want to remove material and which surface the tool must follow. Open-grid saw rasps, shaped steel rasps, flexible card scrapers and a supported No.80-style scraper offer different contact, control and preparation requirements.

The Shinto E1101 and two-handled SR-30 share the saw-rasp family but differ in their handling format. The Narex three-profile coarse set supplies distinct profiles, not three grades of one flat tool. Nicholson’s Number 49 is a half-round cabinet rasp; “49” is the reference designation, not abrasive grit.
Separate a scraper blade from a supported tool
The Crown 376 set offers three card shapes. The Big Horn 19346 holds a scraper blade in a two-handled No.80-style body. Decide whether you want to flex and hold a card directly or compare a supported blade assembly. Its blade width and the width of its sole describe different components.
Plan handles and edge preparation
The selected Nicholson is unhandled, so a handle is a separate buying question. A card-scraper set does not automatically include a burnisher. Compare the sharpening and tool-care department for the selected scraper’s edge preparation; do not expect a new tool’s model number to identify its abrasive grade or every accessory supplied.
Questions before you choose
Is Nicholson Number 49 a grit rating?
No. It is the selected cabinet-rasp designation. Compare the stated cut and profile on the product page.
Does a card-scraper set include a handle or burnisher?
Not unless the selected contents say so. Crown 376 provides three scraper shapes; the supported No.80-style tool is a separate format.
Is the ten-inch rasp measurement its full length?
For the retained Nicholson it identifies the file length. The overall dimension is a separate measurement; check both before planning storage.
